Anthony Joshua Says Focus Is On Otto Wallin, But Doesn’t Deny Having A Deal To Box Deontay Wilder

Anthony Joshua

Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder have reportedly agreed to fight on March 9.

Joshua and Wilder are set to compete on the Dec. 23 card in Saudi Arabia, but will not be competing against one another. It was frustrating to many fans that the two aren’t fighting one another, as instead Joshua will take on Otto Wallin while Wilder will take on Joseph Parker.

However, it was reported by ESPN that Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder are set to meet on March 9 if they both win. But, Joshua says the focus is on Wallin and won’t comment on that potential fight.

“In terms of finalized, I’m not too sure,” Joshua said (h/t BoxingScene). “I’m not too sure. I think for me, personally, I’ve got a great management team. And, you know, they’re always looking steps ahead. But for me as an athlete, I don’t know much about it. My main focus is purely on my opponent and Otto Wallin…

“The Wilder fight’s big for sure, and it’s always good to have a view of the landscape in front of you,” Joshua said. “But my main focus is Wallin, so in terms of his thoughts about Wilder, I have no comment on that because my main focus is on my opponent. And he’s got a chance. Every fighter’s got a chance. He wants to become the first Swedish heavyweight champion. My goal is to upset those odds, so we both have our goals and our targets. And at the end of the day, the best man will be victorious.”

In order for the fight to happen, both Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder will need to win on Dec. 23.
