Austin Trout Has No Thoughts Of Retirement

Former WBA light middleweight champion Austin Trout has no plans of retirement anytime soon.

Trout has been a pro boxer since 2005 and at age 38, he likely doesn’t have many years left in the sport. Trout says his mom has been wanting him to retire, but he then was offered a fight in BKFC which he jumped at.

“I found out recently that my mother has been waiting for me to retire,” said Trout. “And my wife has already been telling me, ‘You’re going to be done by 35?’ So both of them both were like, ‘Hey, when are we going to retire? Because we kind of are going through this with you.’ And then I sprung it on them. ‘Hey guys, so about that retirement, it’s not happening. Also, I’m going to go ahead and jump in this bareknuckle fighting.’”

In his BKFC debut, Austin Trout beat UFC veteran Diego Sanchez and will now face Luis Palomino for the promotion’s welterweight title on Friday.

As of right now, the focus for Trout is becoming a BKFC champion, but he’s also still looking to get another boxing fight.

“I’m looking for a good fight,” he said “I’m on a six-fight win streak in boxing, but there’s nothing as lucrative as bareknuckle was offering. So if boxing can match that energy, I would be happy to go back Until then, I’m about to be a BKFC champion.”

Austin Trout is currently 37-5-1 as a pro and coming off a decision win over Omir Rodriguez in October. In his career, he holds notable wins over Miguel Cotto, Delvin Rodriguez, Frank LoPorto, Delvin Rodriguez, and David Alonso Lopez among others.
