Canelo Alvarez Knows Billy Joe Saunders Is A Very Difficult Fight

Canelo Alvarez made easy work of Avni Yildirim on Saturday but the Mexican is expecting a much harder fight next time out.

On May 8, Alvarez is looking to become the undisputed champion as he faces WBO champion, Billy Joe Saunders. It is a fight the fans have wanted to see for quite some time as it is an interesting matchup. The Englishman will be one of Alvarez’s toughest test to date and the Mexican knows just how good he is.

“We want to unify the division, he’s a world champion, we want to go for it and we need to go for it,” Canelo Alvarez said (via boxingscene). “He’s a very difficult fighter and has a championship, the WBO. People talk but I’m a very mature fighter and I know how to control myself. All I need to do is go into the ring, win and make history. It’s because it hasn’t been done, no one has done it in Latin America. In the world only a few fighters have done it, the best. I want to make history and be one of the best in the world.”

Canelo Alvarez is 55-1-2 and as mentioned, is coming off the TKO retirement win over Avni Yildirim on Saturday at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. Before that, he beat Callum Smith in December.

Billy Joe Saunders, meanwhile, is 30-0 and coming off a very impressive win over Martin Murray last time out. Before that, the Englishman defeated Marcelo Esteban Coceres on the KSI vs. Logan Paul 2 undercard which was supposed to be a breakout fight for Saunders as he was supposed to win early. However, he ended up needing 11 rounds to get the TKO win. If he pulls off the upset over Alvarez, it would be a big upset and cement his legacy.
