Conor Benn Promises Return To Welterweight If Chris Eubank Jr. Fight Doesn’t Come To Fruition

Conor Benn

Conor Benn returned to the boxing ring on Saturday, in a fight that was announced just days before.

Benn was fighting Rodolfo Orozco in a super welterweight bout. Benn dominated the fight as he cruised to a decision win with scores of 99-91, 99-91, and 96-94. It was his first fight since April of 2022 as he was dealing with the drug violation from his potential fight against Chris Eubank Jr. last year.

Now, following Benn getting the win at super welterweight, he says he will return to 147lbs, but also wants the fight with Chris Eubank Jr.

“Of course, I do,” Benn said to reporters if he thinks that fight happens (h/t BoxingScene). “It’s a massive domestic fight. The British fans want it, I think all the world fans want it. I want to do the world a favor (and beat Eubank). Whatever happens, happens. I might be able to go down to 147 and capture world titles there. There’s big fights for me. All of the welterweight belts are here in America. I might be making a return to America very soon. If not, the only exception is going up to 160. Otherwise, back to 147.”

Conor Benn vs. Chris Eubank Jr. is one of the biggest fights to make in boxing, but whether or not it will happen is uncertain. Although Benn wants it to happen, he’s not sold on Eubank Jr. wanting the fight.

“If it doesn’t happen… listen, I’ve gone through so much in the past year and a half then if it’s not for me, it went past me” Benn said of a possible Eubank fight. “If it’s not for me, the doors are closed. That’s where I am at and how I view things.”
