Daniel Jacobs vs. John Ryder In Discussion For Early 2022

Daniel Jacobs

Daniel Jacobs will look to extend his winning streak to three since his loss to Canelo Alvarez.

Since the loss to Alvarez in 2019 to lose his IBF middleweight title, he beat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and then earned a split decision over Gabriel Rosado in November 2020. Now, according to multiple reports, but first reported by Sports Illustrated, Jacobs is in talks to face John Ryder sometime in early 2022. The fight could determine a possible next challenger to challenge undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez.

Daniel Jacobs (37-3), as mentioned, is coming off the back-to-back wins after losing a dominant decision to Alvarez. Before the setback to the Mexican, he was coming off a very impressive win over Sergiy Derevyanchenko even though it was a split. His other two losses in his career have come to Dmitry Pirog in 2010 and Gennady Golovkin in 2017. Jacobs holds notable wins over Sergio Mora, Caleb Truax, and Luis Aris among others.

John Ryder (30-5) is also riding a two-fight winning streak and coming off a TKO win over Jozef Jurko back on September 10. In his last two fights, Ryder took a step back in competition after the loss to Callum Smith back in November of 2019. However, the loss to Smith was a controversial one as many believe he won the fight. His other losses have come to Ricky Fielding, Jack Arnfield, Nick Blackwell, and Billy Joe Saunders.

The exact date of Jacobs vs. Ryder has not been announced, or where it will be shown is also not known.
