Deontay Wilder vs. Andy Ruiz Jr. Officially Ordered By WBC As Final Eliminator For Tyson Fury

Deontay Wilder

Deontay Wilder and Andy Ruiz Jr. will be fighting next time out.

For quite some time, both Wilder and Ruiz Jr. have said they are interested in fighting one another. The plan was if Wilder beat Robert Helenius and if Ruiz Jr. beat Luis Ortiz – which both happened – they would face one another. Now, however, the WBC officially ordered the fight as a title eliminator bout for Tyson Fury‘s WBC heavyweight title.

As mentioned, this is a fight both men have wanted so even if the WBC didn’t order it, it likely would’ve been next. But, now it’s official that the winner will face Tyson Fury for his title.

Recently, Ruiz Jr. also talked about Eddie Hearn predicting him to beat Wilder. The former champ believes he can take the punch and be too fast and explosive and eventually will find the KO.

“For me, I feel that I can take a punch. I’m not saying that he doesn’t hit hard or nothing – damn well he hits hard,” Ruiz Jr. said to Boxing Social. “But just like Eddie Hearn was saying, I’m going to get in, I’m going to throw my combinations, I’m going to be fast, explosive, and I feel that right hand in his temple, he’s gonna go down.”

Deontay Wilder (43-2-1) is coming off the first-round KO win over Robert Helenius which was his first bout since the back-to-back KO losses to Tyson Fury. In his career, the former WBC heavyweight champ also has notable wins over Luis Ortiz, Dominic Breazeale, Malik Scott, and Gerald Washington while also having a draw against Fury.

Andy Ruiz Jr. (35-2) is on a two-fight wins streak as he beat Ortiz and Chris Arreola by decision after losing his titles in the rematch to Anthony Joshua by decision. In June of 2019, he shocked many as he scored a KO win over Joshua to become the new WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight champion.

Who do you think will win, Deontay Wilder or Andy Ruiz Jr.?
