Floyd Mayweather Hints At Massive Return In RIZIN

Floyd Mayweather could be headed back to the RIZIN ring very soon.

In an emergency press conference from Tokyo this week, the boxing legend announced a major boxing and MMA event to be held in Japan during 2019. Mayweather said his exhibition against Tenshin Nasukawa on New Year’s Eve allowed him to see the potential for huge fighting events in Japan. Because of that, he wants to help Japan’s fighting scene rise up to the level of Las Vegas.

No opponents or dates have been announced for the event. But Mayweather is still considering an exhibition match on the card according to eFight.JP. Former WBA world middleweight champion Ryota Murata could be a potential opponent for Mayweather.

The announcement from Mayweather comes on the heels of his former rival Manny Pacquiao signing with RIZIN. It was immediately speculated that he would rematch Mayweather in RIZIN. However, RIZIN president Nobuyuki Sakakibara confirmed that Pacquiao’s role with RIZIN was not a fight contract.

Pacquiao will be brought on in support of Filipino fighter Fritz Biagtan, who meets Nasukawa in his next match. So even though he and Mayweather may not be fighting one another, they could be linked in a business capacity in some form in the near future.

Just what that entails remains to be seen.
