Frank Warren Says Fury Will Not Fight Whyte Despite WBC Order
Tyson Furyโs co-promoter Frank Warren says the lineal heavyweight champion will not be fighting Dillian Whyte despite the fact the WBC has ordered the winner of Fury-Wilder III to face โThe Body Snatcherโ next.
“He ainโt fighting Dillian Whyte because he wants Anthony Joshua,โ Warren said.
โLetโs get that on. Then while Dillian waits for his opportunity, a massive fight, would be him against Daniel Dubois. That fight makes a lot of sense to me.
โTyson Fury is not beholden to him. Tyson Fury is probably the biggest star in boxing at the moment in my opinion. Heโs undefeated, heโs been named as the No 1 heavyweight in the world by Ring magazine. He will make his choices.โ
Warren went on to say that Fury vs. Joshua is the fight he wants to see โ hopefully in Britain.
โHim against Joshua is the fight everyone wants to see,โ Warren said. โIโm a fan and I want to see it. In my lifetime Iโve seen all these heavyweights and now weโre blessed with this.
โI want to see these two guys fight each other and no one should stand in their way and itโs really important that it happens now when these two guys are at their best.
โItโs the best heavyweight fight out there and it would be the biggest sporting event in this country since the England won the World Cup. It would transcend sport. Itโs not going to happen before the end of the year, but it has to happen next year.
โAnd that fight should happen in the UK. We should move heaven and earth to make it happen here.โ (Transcribed by Boxing Scene)
Whyte will defend his interim WBC heavyweight title against Alexander Povetkin on August 22. Afterward, he will undoubtedly continue his calls for a shot at Fury whose trilogy fight against Wilder appears unlikely to take place in 2020.
Do you think Tyson Fury should be able to skip his mandatory defence against Dillian Whyte?
