Frank Warren: Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua Wonโ€™t Take Place In The UK

Frank Warren who co-promotes WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has explained why the biggest fight in British boxing history will likely take place on foreign soil.

On Wednesday (May 10) it Eddie Hearn broke the news that his fighter, Anthony Joshua had agreed on financial terms for a two-fight deal with โ€˜The Gypsy Kingโ€™.

In an interview with Talk Sport Warren spoke of his delight that a fight between the two best heavyweights in world boxing had moved one step closer, he said.

โ€œIโ€™m delighted for Tyson, Iโ€™m delighted for British boxing. And Iโ€™m certainly delighted that weโ€™re finally gonna get to see whoโ€™s the best out of these two guysโ€ฆ

โ€œWeโ€™ve agreed percentages which I always said from the beginning was a 50/50 and a two-fight deal. The rest of it will all fall into place as negotiations and offers come in.โ€

While financial terms have been agreed there is still a lot to be discussed before fans gets to see Fury and Joshua throw down such as TV broadcasters, date and venue. Exactly where the fight will take remains a mystery but Warren says itโ€™s unlikely to take place in the UK due to a few different reasons.

โ€œAll those things are to be decided. Itโ€™s about working out the most viable and the best place for us to get it on. Weโ€™re in discussions with a number of venues and eventually weโ€™ll announce whatโ€™s going on as far as thatโ€™s concerned.

โ€œJust like you go back to the days of Muhammad Ali when he went to Zaire to fight George Foreman, and Frazier and Ali fought in Manila.

โ€œThose venues at the time just came out of left field, nobody expected that to happen and I think the sameโ€™s gonna happen here.Somebodyโ€™s gonna stump up a huge amount of because of the time of year. And also I donโ€™t think it will generate the income. Iโ€™d love it to go on in the UK, but being very realistic I do think it will happen abroad.โ€

Do you believe Frank Warren? Will Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua likely take place outside the UK?
