The junior-middleweight collision between Anthony Fowler and Liam Smith has wrapped up.
Earlier today (Oct. 9), Fowler and Smith did battle inside the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, England. The bout was contested for Fowler’s WBA International Junior-Middleweight Championship.
Already at the halfway point of the opening round, Fowler caused blood to trickle down the eye of Smith. A hard right hand from Fowler caught Smith clean upstairs. Round one was all Fowler.
Smith had much more success in the second stanza. He had some left hands and a right. Fowler appeared to lean into the jab a bit too much, which left openings for Smith.
Fowler had Smith in a world of trouble in the third round. Despite being wobbly from a barrage of punches, Smith landed two big punches at the end of the frame.
Smith caused a cut over Fowler’s left eye in the fourth round. A left hook connected for Smith at the end of the round.
Smith dropped Fowler in the fifth round with a right hand over the top. Fowler survived the round.
A left hook in the eighth round once again floored Fowler. This time, he didn’t want anymore and Smith earned a massive victory. He is the new WBA International Junior-Middleweight Champion.
