Jermell Charlo Says Race Didn’t Matter In Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder II

Jermall Charlo knows Deontay Wilder needs to make a ton of changes ahead of his trilogy fight against Tyson Fury on July 24.

The two have their highly-anticipated third fight in Las Vegas where many expect Fury to get his hand raised again. Yet, for Charlo, he says Wilder needs to make some changes

“First and foremost, admit the mistakes that he done in that fight,” said Jermell Charlo to Fighhype (via Boxing247) on what Wilder needs to do for him to come out victorious against Fury on July 24th. Like I said before; I have no problems with Wilder. I actually like Wilder as a fighter, and I like Wilder as a puncher. I like Fury as a boxer. I’m not here being biased about anything. I made a mistake the other day; I said race don’t matter. I said race don’t matter, but they took it and said, ‘Oh, race don’t matter throughout the world.’

“No, I was talking about that particular fight [between Wilder and Fury],” Charlo continued. “I was talking about why does race matters in that particular fight? Race matters, of course. Look at your judges. He said he was chocolate, and because he was chocolate, he lost the fight [with Fury]. I just thought that was foolish.”

Although many websites ran with the fact Charlo said race don’t matter, he made it clear he said it wrong and wants everyone to know that.

“I want the media people to put this out,” said Jermell Charlo. “This is me correcting that bull s*** that I said when I said, ‘Race don’t matter,’ when I should have said ‘race didn’t matter during that fight [Fury vs. Wilder 2]’. So don’t it get f*** up. Race matters, of course. I stand very proud.

“I want the world to know that I’m not afraid to speak on racism. I know it’s not fair. We’re all going to heaven, or we’re all trying to get to heaven. So we have to try our best to do everything we can to get to get to the gate, even if you’re white or black or not,” Charlo concluded. “There’s a lot of religions that are made up, and there are a lot of things that we should accomplish before we die. Right now, I believe during that situation trying to belittle me, they’re wrong. I’m here for my people, but I’m also here for anybody.”
