John Ryder Shares Prediction For Canelo Alvarez vs. Jamie Munguia
John Ryder, a former opponent of Canelo Alvarez, has given his prediction for the upcoming boxing match between the Mexican and Jamie Munguia.
Alvarez enters the bout as a -600 favorite, and Ryder agrees with that. He believes that Alvarez will be able to land better shots and get the win, but he does expect the fight to be very competitive.
โThe accumulation of punches he throws is very high. Heโs got a high work rate, a high punch output. Caneloโs not โ heโs very sensible. He picks his shots well, he doesnโt waste nothing. What he throws, he knows heโs going to land, whereas Munguiaโs more volume, but heโs got more snap in his than Canelo. Caneloโs a real thudding puncher, whereas Munguiaโs got that pop-bang. [Caneloโs] punch accuracy is very good. Heโll give you the sign that heโs gonna throw the shot and you think, โRight, I can see this coming,โ and you evade a few, but heโs going to hit you and heโs going to land and itโs going to be hard,” Ryder said (via BoxingScene).
“Everythingโs going to be behind that shot. He does take his toll on people down the line. It was a close fight [between Munguia and Derevyanchenko]. It was down to the last round, pretty much, and Munguia done it for me. Itโs a great opportunity. Obviously thereโs a bit of needle there with De La Hoya and Canelo, so that might be the more interesting sell on the fight week. Munguiaโs a willing participant. He done a number on me; he truly deserves his crack,” Ryder continued.
โI think Canelo wins. I think itโll be close. Munguia will get off to a good start โ might even go three, four rounds up, maybe. But I think Canelo will come on strong the second half of the fight and make it his own. Heโs too accurate and heโs got the lasting effect in his shots. Heโll grind Munguia down, and I donโt think heโll stop him, but I think heโll beat him on points,” Ryder added.
If Alvarez wins, Ryder is hopeful he can get a rematch with the Mexican in the future.
