Matchroom Boxing To Livestream Srisaket Sor Rungvisai’s Return

Matchroom Boxing’s ‘Fight Camp” series kicks-off this Saturday, August 1, with Super Welterweights Sam Eggington ( 28-6-0, 17 KO) and Ted Cheesman (15-2-1, 9 KO) headlining the promotion’s return.

However, before that, Matchroom has confirmed that it will livestream an all-Thai clash between Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (47-5-1, 41KO) and Amnat Ruenroeng (20-3-0, 6 KO). The 10 round bout will take place in Bang Phun, Thailand. This will be the first time Rungvisai has fought since he lost his WBC world super flyweight title to Juan Francisco Estrada in April 2019.

“” As if August 1 couldn’t get any bigger with the launch of Matchroom Fight Camp, the return of former WBC Super-Flyweight World Champion Rungvisai against former IBF 112lbs ruler Ruenroeng will now be shown live on the Matchroom YouTube channel,” Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn said.

“It’s a great little warm-up at 8.45 (3:45 am ET) in the morning for what will be a very exciting day for the world of boxing. Next Saturday is all about the return of boxing. Fight fans will get a chance to watch a pound-for-pound star in Rungvisai before enjoying the opening night of Fight Camp.”

Rungvisai should have no real problems overcoming Ruenroeng, who is not in the same league as his compatriot and at 40 is the elder fighter by seven years. Nevertheless, it will be good to see Rungvisai shake off any ring rust he has, as it appears that Hearn is hoping to match him with the winner of Estrada and Roman Gonzalez.

“Juan Francisco Estrada will fight ‘Chocolatito’ next, we’re in the process of trying to make that fight, probably for October time in America. The winner of that fight will face Sor Rungvisai providing he gets through on the 1st. It’s a great little run of fights for those three and the division itself. We’re so lucky to represent those three great fighters,” Hearn explained.

It is safe to say that Rungvisai-Ruenroeng is a fight that will likely attract only hardcore boxing fans, but it will be interesting to see how Rungvisai performs after a being out of the ring for over a year.

Will you be adding this fight to this week’s boxing calendar?
