Pros React To Charlo-Castano Controversial Draw In 154lbs Undisputed Title Fight

Charlo

On Saturday night in San Antonio, Texas, Jermell Charlo and Brian Castano fought to crown an undisputed 154lbs champion.

Ahead of the fight, it was a very anticipated and intriguing matchup. Charlo had the KO power but Castano had the technical boxing skills to be able to outpoint Charlo as a common criticism is Charlo doesn’t throw enough volume. Ultimately, in the later rounds, Charlo had success but when they went to the scorecards many thought Castano won.

However, went the scorecards were read, it was announced as a split draw. Yet, many blasted the scorecard of judge Nelson Vazquez’s who had it 117-111 Charlo. Yet, Charlo believes he had won the fight.

“The draw wasn’t what I wanted to hear,” Charlo told Jim Gray on Showtime (via DAZN). “If anything, I won this fight. I hurt him way more than he did. This is my first time experiencing something like this.”

However, Castano clearly thought he won the fight and was shocked by the scorecards.

“Basically, I won the fight. There are some rounds that he hit me hard but I won the fight,” Castano replied.

With the draw, a rematch could very well be next. Yet, both Charlo and Castano have mandatory challengers next that would need to be put aside.

After the draw, several pros took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the fight.
