Fans were back in California to watch Andy Ruiz Jr. take on Chris Arreola in an intriguing heavyweight scrap. With the fans being back, to no surprise, there were also fights in the audience.

With the pandemic still going on, fans were supposed to be socially distanced with a limited number of fans in attendance. However, that didn’t stop them from getting into their own fights, which was caught on camera by The Athletic’s Mike Coppinger.

The first fight was a good one between fans and security separated them shortly thereafter. However, more fights in the crowd happened which were also caught on camera.

There is no question the crowd is always a big part of big boxing events and Saturday night was no different as they were getting into it in the crowd. Although it was taking away from the very entertaining bout between Ruiz Jr. and Arreola, it is nice to see the fans back to get a sense of normalcy.

Andy Ruiz Jr. ended up earning a decision win over Arreola but it was a closer fight than many thought. The veteran dropped Ruiz Jr. early in the fight but as the bout went on, the Mexican began to fins his timing and have a lot of success.

Although many had hopes Ruiz Jr. would get the KO win, he’s happy with his performance as he did what he needed to, to get the win.

“Chiris Arreola is a veteran and a hard puncher. We did what we had to do and we won the victory but remember that I was the lowest of the lowest and had to come back,” Ruiz said. “We did what we had to do and thanks to God we got this victory. On to the next.”
