Regis Prograis Respects Devin Haney For Moving Up In Weight To Fight Him

Regis Prograis has nothing but respect for Devin Haney.

Prograis and Haney are set to box on Dec. 9 at the Chase Center in San Francisco on DAZN PPV as Haney moves up from 135lbs to 140lbs to face Prograis. Haney is currently the undisputed lightweight champion but will move up to try his hand at super welterweight.

It’s one of the biggest fights of the year and Prograis says he is glad Haney decided to move up in weight for this fight.

“I respect him for that [to move up and immediately fight me]. I know they are going off my last performance, but that’s cool man,” Prograis told BoxingScene.com in an interview. “I’m glad. If I went out there and blasted Zorilla in one or two rounds, I wouldn’t be getting this fight. I’m glad and it’s a blessing that I didn’t look that good against Zorilla as he was running around the entire time. Now, I have a super fight, and that’s what boxing is about. We’re now in the era of the super fights.”

Regis Prograis is coming off a split decision win over Danielito Zorrilla back in June in a lackluster performance. Although he got the win, he knows without that performance, Haney wouldn’t have had the confidence to face him.

However, Prograis also knows that fighting Devin Haney shows he is up for the toughest challenges no matter what.

“My road has never been easy. It’s always been kind of bumpy,” said Prograis. “I’m a two-time world champion and I don’t get the recognition I deserve. But this fight is going to put me on the map where I belong.” 

Prograis is currently 29-1 as a pro and riding a five-fight win streak. During the win streak, he holds notable wins over Ivan Redkach, and Jose Zepeda, both by stoppage.
