REPORT | Oscar De La Hoya Could Face Marcos Maidana In Comeback

De La Hoya

Former six-weight boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya could make his much-anticipated comeback to the sport against Marcos Maidana according to a report from Boxing Scene, which reads.

“The latest signal that Oscar De La Hoya is indeed serious about making a return to the ring after 12 years in retirement is that his team has begun to talk about possible opponents, and it could be former two-division world titlist Marcos Maidana.

“Maidana’s representative, Grant Elvis Phillips, the experienced manager and the owner of boxing glove maker Grant Worldwide, has in the past few weeks spoken to Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez about the possibility of the bout, sources with knowledge of the conversations told BoxingScene.com.

De La Hoya announced in August that he is set to lace up the gloves once again after 12 years away from the sport, he said.

“The rumors are true and I’m going to start training in the next few weeks. It’s a real fight. I miss being in the ring. I love boxing. Boxing is what gave me everything I have today, and I just miss it.”

‘The Golden Boy’ later revealed his intention is to return to the top of the sport and face the very best opponent available, he said.

“I really am considering making a comeback. I have been training. I seriously feel incredible. I feel amazing. With me, I always fought the very best, and why not? If I make the comeback in the first quarter of next year, by the way, I have slimmed down 20 pounds, it’s going to be against the very best, like always.”

“None of this ducking fighters like the way fighters duck everyone today. They make it impossible because they price themselves out. It’s a huge problem … George Foreman did it, and I think I can do it as well … I feel like a million, million bucks. It’s crazy.”

Former two-division champion Maidana is looking to fight for the first time since suffering back-to-back defeats against Floyd Mayweather in highly competitive and highly lucrative fights. The 37-year-old from Argentina is certainly the type of opponent De La Hoya has promised for his boxing comeback.
