Rolly Romero Compares ‘Chinny’ Devin Haney To Amir Khan

Rolly Romero

Rolly Romero doesn’t have many kind words for Devin Haney.

Haney is the current WBC Lightweight Champion. He’s coming off a successful title defense against Jorge Linares. Haney had to battle adversity after seemingly getting rocked late in the fight. Haney was able to go the distance and won via unanimous decision.

Romero has a perfect pro boxing record of 14-0. He is the interim WBA Lightweight Champion. He’s held the title since August 2020.

As of late, Romero and Haney have been trading barbs on Twitter. Recently, Haney responded to Romero’s criticism of his performance against Linares. Haney described Romero as a “pile of sh*t.”

Romero fired back at Haney (h/t BoxingScene.com).

“I’ll fight Devin Haney. Sh*t, I mean, he’s chinny as hell. He got hurt with Venum gloves. That’s a joke. And not even just get hurt; he didn’t recover. It was like four rounds and he didn’t recover. So, like I said, I mean, Linares is nowhere near the puncher like me. Haney, I feel bad [for him]. He’s probably the chinniest fighter at 35, if not, you know, one of the most chinniest in the sport. He’s the Amir Khan of 135.”

Haney’s next opponent currently isn’t scheduled. Many have been calling for the top lightweights to face each other. Right now, Teofimo Lopez, Gervonta Davis, Devin Haney, and Ryan Garcia are considered to be the cream of the crop at 135 pounds. One can’t rule out the possibility of Vasiliy Lomachenko returning to prominence either.

Rolly Romero is looking to earn his way into that conversation. He competed earlier this month, stopping Anthony Yigit via TKO. He has developed a reputation for being a finisher as 12 of his 14 victories have come by way of KO or TKO. Time will tell if he can produce similar results at an elite level.
