Ryan Garcia Plans To ‘Prove Thereβs Nothing Scary About’ Javier Fortuna
Ryan Garcia plans to prove he is no walkover against Javier Fortuna.
Garcia and Fortuna are finally set to meet on July 16 from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and will air on DAZN. It’s a crucial fight for the division as Garcia has been vocal in saying he wants to fight Tank Davis next but he needs to beat Fortuna first.
According to Garcia, he says Fortuna accused him of ducking him which he says is not true.
βFortuna is making it seem like I ducked him,β Garcia told BoxingScene.com during a media roundtable preceding the official kickoff press conference. βItβs a s****y take on his part. Iβm just gonna prove thereβs nothing scary about you. You can tell me Iβm scared of you all you want. When I connect, weβll see who runs and whoβs there to fight. If you want to fight me, we can fight. I promise, when I hit you, youβre gonna be the one running scared.β
Of course, Garcia and Fortuna were supposed to fight last July but Garcia pulled out of the fight due to his mental heath issues. Now they are set to meet, Ryan Garcia told Javier Fortuna to stay off the drugs if he thinks he’s scared of him.
βStay off the drugs,β Garcia joked during the press conference before laughing off the remark. βNah, but you should see the things he says to me and about me. Heβs all up in my DMβs, talking sh!t in Spanish and English both. Basically, he calls me a coward. How am I a coward? Iβm fighting you.β
Garcia is 22-0 and coming off a decision win over Emmanuel Tagoe back in April after knocking out Luke Campbell to become the interim WBC lightweight champ.
