Terence Crawford isn’t strong enough to deal with Canelo Alvarez, says Abel Sanchez
Gennadiy Golovkin’s former trainer Abel Sanchez doesn’t believe Terence Crawford will be strong enough to deal with Canelo Alvarez, says trainer Abel Sanchez.
As we know, Terence Crawford is set to battle Canelo Alvarez next month in what is quite simply a huge fight. It’s easily one of the biggest bouts of this generation, and perhaps one of the biggest of all time. Of course, there are lots of factors to consider when trying to figure out how this fight is going to go, and the size difference is one of them.
Terence Crawford is taking a big step up in terms of weight in order to collide with Canelo. The Mexican sensation is clearly the bigger man, but for Crawford, it doesn’t seem as if that bothers him all too much. Instead, he’s daring to be great, and he’s doing so on the biggest stage of them all.
In a recent interview, the aforementioned Abel Sanchez spoke candidly about Terence Crawford’s chances in this contest.
Terence Crawford = not strong enough?
“Terence belongs down at 154 and 147, but it’s a great opportunity for him. All the guys that are around in the lower divisions want that opportunity to fight Canelo for a lot of different reasons,” said trainer Abel Sanchez to Seconds Out. “Obviously, monetarily, but also for their egos, their pride, and their legacy matters a lot to these guys.
“Hopefully, he doesn’t get hurt, but I don’t think he’s going to be strong enough to deal with Canelo. A name like Crawford motivates Canelo to be more focused [than he was against William Scull]. I don’t think it would be the same fight as Scull had. I think Crawford has the responsibility and pressure on him to make it a fight.”
