Mike Tyson, Roy Jones Jr Unhappy With Their Fight Being Two-Minute Rounds

Mike Tyson versus Roy Jones Jr is quickly rising upon us, we only have one more month until these two do battle for a scheduled eight-two minute round bout on November 28, 2020.

Earlier today we got the first press conference out of the way, which showcased the eight main card talents, ending with Tyson and Jones.

Tyson was asked if he was disappointed when the fight was changed to two minute rounds, given he’s considered the puncher going in:

“Absolutely! I’m sure they have their reasons for doing it but, you know, the women fight two minutes. But I have to understand, this is bigger than me, it’s not all about me, so I guess the commissioner has more input than I do, so, who am I to talk? I’m just happy that we’re doing it.”

They then turned the question to Jones:

“I’m not happy at all, like he said. I’m not happy at all, that’s for women. I kept fighting ’til the last minute, I’m like, ‘why are we doing two minute rounds?’ I don’t understand that. We’re not women, we’re two of the best to ever do it.

“Why we gotta go two minute rounds? I mean, why? If something’s going to happen, it’s gonna happen anyway. Two minute, three minute, five minute, it don’t really matter. So for us, what difference does it make? Why cut us to two minutes?

“Two minutes doesn’t do anything for him nor me to be honest with you. It cheats the fans out of it, because that’s their excitement. That gives us a little more time, to get a little more fatigued, to set up a little bit better shot than we could probably set up in two minutes.

“So, to me, it was all advantageous for everybody to keep it three minutes. But, like he said, it’s supposed to be an ‘exhibition, charity event’. Okay.”

Luckily, the two are not required to wear headgear, this is still very much a real fight, it just won’t go on either of their records, being an exhibition.

That’s something many people don’t understand about exhibitions, they’re real fights, they have real outcomes and real consequences. Participants can still be viciously hurt and finished in them, don’t think this isn’t a real fight just because the word exhibition is part of it.

Who do you see winning this epic comeback of the legends fight?
