To the surprise of many, Vasiliy Lomachenko came up short against Teofimo Lopez in 2020.
The title unification bout saw Lomachenko lose all his belts, to the rising star in Lopez.
Now Lomachenko (14-2) will seek to regain his winning ways. He is set to take on Masayoshi Nakatani (19-1) this summer. The fight is believed to serve as the main event for an ESPN card. although the date is yet to be confirmed. This report comes via a source close to ESPN.
Nakatani is coming off the ninth-round stoppage of Felix Verdejo at the end of 2020.
He is also a previous opponent of Teofimo Lopez, although he too narrowly lost to the young prodigy.
One of the major factors that will likely become a major talking point in the buildup to this fight is the height and reach advantage that Nakatani has over Vasiliy Lomachenko. It will be no easy comeback fight for the former world champion.
