Canelo Alvarez could retire after Terence Crawford fight, predicts Eddie Hearn
Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn believes Canelo Alvarez could retire following his upcoming clash with Terence Crawford later this year.
As we know, Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford are set to collide on September 12 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s a superfight that has been in the works for a long time on, and they’re finally pulling the trigger on it. Alas, while Canelo is considered by many to be the favorite as a result of his size, Crawford is an exceptional talent who can certainly cause his Mexican rival some problems.
Eddie Hearn is one of many who will be keeping a close eye on this fight and in a recent interview, he gave his thoughts on what the future could hold for Canelo Alvarez beyond this contest.
Canelo Alvarez could retire, says Eddie Hearn
“I believe the deal with His Excellency is for three fights. I think the Crawford fight will be his last,” said promoter Eddie Hearn to Ring Magazine about Canelo Alvarez possibly retiring after. “There’s no intel there, and I’ve not had any conversations with him. But after watching that Scull fight after Crawford, what else is there for him to do?”
“Do you want to go to England for a fight? Yeah, I guess that could appeal to. But I don’t know. I just think Father Time, the body, the mojo, I don’t know. I actually thought during the Scull fight, ‘I wouldn’t be surprised if he just didn’t fight Crawford,’” said Hearn.
