Canelo Alvarez gets honest about defeat to Terence Crawford

Canelo Alvarez closing as decent betting favorite to beat Terence Crawford in September super fight

Canelo Alvarez has spoken candidly about what went wrong for him in his unanimous decision defeat to Terence Crawford on Saturday night.

At Allegiant Stadium, with the world watching, Terence Crawford defeated Canelo Alvarez on Saturday night. It was a masterful performance from ‘Bud’ and while it wasn’t exactly a one-sided domination, it was definitely a comfortable win for Crawford as he managed to shut down a lot of what Canelo is usually able to use to his advantage.

While some have called for a potential rematch, others believe they saw enough to say that Canelo Alvarez wouldn’t be able to do a whole lot differently in a second encounter. Either way, though, this was a blockbuster encounter between two of this generation’s very best, and it certainly lived up to the hype.

In his post-fight interview, Canelo Alvarez spoke about why he wasn’t really able to get things going in the manner that we’re used to seeing from him.

Canelo Alvarez responds to Terence Crawford loss

โ€œI tried my best, but I couldnโ€™t figure out the style. Everything. He has everything,โ€ said Canelo Alvarez at the post-fight press conference when asked why he couldnโ€™t adapt to defeat Terence Crawford on Saturday night.

โ€œSometimes you try, and your body canโ€™t go. Thatโ€™s my frustration. Maybe I could have figured out Crawford, but my body didnโ€™t let me go. I hit Crawford, but not with my clean shots with all my power.

โ€œHeโ€™s a great fighter. He knows how to move and everything,โ€ said Canelo.

For Canelo, it’s a case of going back to the drawing board to see what exactly went wrong. As for Crawford, you have to wonder whether or not this was his last dance, especially given how great of a way this would be to ride off into the sunset.
