Claressa Shields

Claressa Shields vs. Savannah Marshall will have VADA testing.

According to promoter Ben Shalom, Shields and Marshall have signed on to fight in early September. The exact date and location has yet to be revealed at this point.

“Early September,” Shalom told Sky Sports. “Both fighters are ready. Both fighters are signed. I can’t wait. It’s taken a while. Claressa has finally got her match. It’s the first time we’re seeing a genuine rivalry in women’s boxing, and that’s a sign of the times.”

It is a massive fight for both women and to add to it, Shields and Marshall will be subject to VADA testing.

“VADA has been provided enrollment paperwork on both Ms. Shields and Mr. Marshall,” Dr. Margaret Goodman, founder, president and chairperson of VADA, confirmed to BoxingScene.com. “Fighters are not enrolled until we are given the go ahead to begin testing eligibility.”

Claressa Shields (12-0) is coming off a decision win over Ema Kozin to retain the WBA, WBC, IBF, and The Ring middleweight titles as well as winning the WBF middleweight belt. Prior to that win, she defeated Marie-Eve Dicaire by decision. Shields also holds notable wins over Ivana Habazin, Christina Hammer, and Hannah Rankin among others. She has also been fighting for the PFL in MMA when she doesn’t box.

Savannah Marshall (12-0), scored a third-round KO over Femke Hermans to retain her WBO middleweight title. She has also beaten the likes of Lolita Muzeya, Maria Lindberg, and Hannah Rankin.
