The WBO’s current middleweight world champion, Demetrius Andrade, has lashed out at WBO super middleweight champ Billy Joe Saunders in a recent podcast appearance.
The verbal barrage of accusations comes off the back of Andrade and Saunders’ cancelled fight, that was originally scheduled to take place in 2018. The reason for the fights cancellation was die to Saunders testing for a banned substance on his drug test.
Saunders is now set to take on Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, boxings current p4p number 1, on May 8th. Prior to this fight being made, Saunders had expressed an interest in remaking the fight between him and Andrade.
However, Andrade believes this was simply a bargaining tactic from Saunders’ part. Speaking on Brian Custer’s Last Stand Podcast, Andrade had the following to say about the matter:
“Smoke and mirrors on Billy Joe’s side. He went out there and said, ‘I’ll fight Demetrius.’ He didn’t want to wait on Canelo until May. But he pretty much just used my name for leverage to make the deal, meaning ‘yo we want this much money or we’re going to fight Demetrius Andrade.’ We know you don’t want to fight Demetrius Andrade, and the possibility of us losing is high fighting Demetrius Andrade”.
“He’s a cheat. He’s a liar. He’s a disgrace. I can’t wait because if I could put these hands on him, I’m going to f— him up!” (Transcribed by Boxing Scene).
Andrade is set to face off against Liam Williams this Saturday, as he defends his world middleweight belt.
