Eddie Hearn Wants To Co-Promote With Dana White For Dillian Whyte vs. Francis Ngannou

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn is hopeful he will be able to work in collaboration with UFC president Dana White to make a crossover bout between heavyweight boxing contender Dillian Whyte and MMA power puncher Francis Ngannou.

The two fighters have been going back and forth on social media over the past few months calling each other out and exchanging barbs. A cross over fight seemed like a long-shot due to both men being on the cusp of big things in their respective sports. Hearn though, believes it’s highly likely we see Whyte to square off against Ngannou in a boxing ring before 2020 is done.

“The only thing is, do we go in the cage or do we go in the ring? Apparently Ngannou wants it in the ring though,” Hearn said on Instagram live. “I thought maybe me and Dana could put this night together where you’ve got a ring which also transforms into a cage between match ups. So you’ve got crossover fights but you’ve got an MMA fighter against a boxer in a ring. Then you’ve got a boxer fighting an MMA fighter in a cage.” (Transcribed by ESPN)

Speaking in a later interview with Sky Sports Hearn said while his fighter is focused on becoming a heavyweight boxing champion, they cannot ignore a fight with Ngannou due to the demand from fans to see it.

“The aim for Dillian Whyte is to become a world boxing champion, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see Dillian Whyte against Ngannou towards the end of this year. Obviously we know Povetkin is next, but whether it’s October, November, December. It’s really got a lot of momentum and a lot of promise. I think there’s a really good chance it could happen.”
