Frank Warren Hopes To Make Deontay Wilder vs. Joe Joyce

Frank Warren is looking to make Deontay Wilder vs. Joe Joyce happen next.

Wilder has not fought since he suffered a knockout loss to Tyson Fury and since then there was talk of him potentially retiring. Yet, Wilder recently said he would be coming back and now Warren hopes he can make Wilder vs. Joyce.

“I’ve got no problem making that fight. Absolutely, no problem if it’s there and can be done, I’d love to do it. Why wouldn’t we try and do that fight? It would be a great fight. No problem,” Warren told IFL TV. “Of course, if it landed, but can you imagine Joe landing his [shots] on his chin. It’s not a problem. I may speak to [Wilder’s manager] Shelly [Finkel] about it.”

Joyce is set to fight in September against an opponent TBD but Warren hopes that can be Wilder which will be a massive event. The winner also could be in line to fight the winner of Oleksandr Usyk vs. Anthony Joshua 2.

“Joe fights on the 24th of September. We are working on opponents. We have been working on prior to the fight, hoping he was coming through, which he has done. We want to be in a position where we’re announcing something early next week for him, and get it and on sale. That’s what we’re looking to try and do,” Warren said.

Whether or not Deontay Wilder has any interest in facing Joe Joyce next is uncertain, but if he wants the quickest path to a title shot facing Joe Joyce is the way to go. It also is a good test for both men to see where they both are and whether or not Joyce is a legit top-level heavyweight contender.
