HIGHLIGHTS: Edgar Berlanga Avoids Disaster Against Marcelo Esteban Coceres

The super-middleweight tilt between Edgar Berlanga and Marcelo Esteban Coceres has concluded.

Berlanga and Coceres clashed inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. This was the featured bout on the Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder 3 prelims. The action aired on ESPN2 and ESPN+. Berlanga was looking to keep his unbeaten streak alive.

Berlanga last competed back in April. He went the distance for the first time in his pro boxing career. He earned a unanimous decision victory over Demond Nicholson.

As for Coceres, he last competed back in June. He defeated Nelson Nicolas Rosalez via TKO. It was a bounce-back win for Coceres, who was coming off a split decision loss in his rematch against Sebastian Horacio Papeschi.

This was the first big test of Berlanga’s career. While he was having success with the jab in the fight, he was hit with was some clean punches as well. In the sixth round, two big right hands caught the attention of the Puerto Rican prospect. The lack of head movement from Berlanga was a problem.

Ultimately, Berlanga landed more punches throughout the fight. He was knocked down in the ninth round but survived. He ended up taking the unanimous decision victory.
