Jack Catterall Believes Josh Taylor Has Already Hit His Ceiling As A Boxer

Jack Catterall believes Josh Taylor has already hit his ceiling as a boxer and he expects to prove that on Saturday.

Catterall and Taylor are set to fight in a highly-anticipated rematch, but Catterall admits he is worried if Taylor will even show up to the fight.

โ€œThe most frequent question I get asked, Iโ€™ve come out of a commercial gym this morning and a bloke said to me, โ€˜All the best, but I donโ€™t think it happensโ€™,โ€ Catterall said (h/t BoxingScene). โ€œI said, โ€˜I bloody hope so. Itโ€™s only a few days away.โ€™ People are not confident Josh makes it to the ring. Thatโ€™s what Iโ€™m getting asked. As many tickets as weโ€™ve done, as many people are coming to support, people keep asking, โ€˜Is Josh gonna turn up?โ€™ So, I hope so.โ€

If the fight does happen, Catterall is confident he will cruise to a lopsided win. Taylor is coming off a lackluster decision loss to Teofimo Lopez which the Brit says was a poor performance from Taylor.

โ€œPoor,โ€ he said, asked to describe Taylorโ€™s performance. โ€œI was doing interviews leading up to the fight and I picked Josh to win the fight, for me, with how Teofimo was acting before the fight [erratically], he wasnโ€™t there emotionally but proved us wrong. I thought he [Taylor] looked โ€˜shotโ€™. Three or four rounds in, his legs were gone. He was falling short consistently throughout the fight. He couldnโ€™t gauge the distance and I thought Teo had his way with him.โ€ย ย ย

Not only does Jack Catterall think Josh Taylor looks shot, but he believes Taylor has already hit his ceiling as a boxer.

โ€œIโ€™ve said it and I believe that, I believe Josh has touched the ceiling and make no mistake, Iโ€™m preparing for the Josh that beat Ramirez, that was on form and ran through the division and won all the titles, thatโ€™s the Josh Iโ€™m expecting on fight night,โ€ Catterall said. โ€œBut, on the same hand, I think heโ€™s had a lot of tough fights, heโ€™s a couple of years older than me and I do feel heโ€™s touched the ceiling.โ€

Jack Catterall enters the bout as slight -130 favorite to defeat Josh Taylor.
