Eddie Hearn Says Deontay Wilder Has ‘Lost His Mind’, Warns Charles Martin Could Beat Him

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn believes Deontay Wilder has lost his mind following his latest comments on Mark Breland.

Wilder continues to double down on his belief that Breland — his now former coach — had spiked his water which contributed to his seventh-round TKO defeat to Tyson Fury last year.

The American also took issue with Breland throwing in the towel during the fight and recently claimed he felt betrayed by the former world champion which led to a response from the latter.

As for Wilder’s comments, Hearn was only left bewildered.

“Go and listen to that interview from Deontay Wilder last night,” Hearn told iFL TV (via talkSPORT). “He’s completely lost his mind, completely lost his mind.

“When you start talking about yourself in the third person, ‘Kings, let me tell you what kings do. What are you talking about? Kings? ‘Yeah kings, because I’m a king.’ You’re not king. You got beat. You could become king, but you’re not at the moment.”

Regardless of Wilder’s beliefs, it appears increasingly likely he will not be getting his trilogy fight with Fury with the latter set to face Anthony Joshua twice in 2021.

Instead, he has reportedly been in talks over a fight with former IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin.

While Martin was finished by Joshua in just two rounds when they met in 2016, he is currently on a three-fight winning streak and most recently TKO’d Gerald Washington on the undercard of the Wilder vs. Fury 2 event.

And according to Hearn, he is more than capable of defeating Wilder.

“It’s a good fight, Charles Martin can fight,” Hearn added. “I know AJ cleaned him out in two rounds but that was a great performance.

“Charles Martin can fight. He was a good fighter then and he’s a good fighter now. Charles Martin might beat Deontay Wilder.”
