Josh Taylor Says He Has Plenty Of Fights Left In His Career
Josh Taylor isn’t thinking about retirement or slowing down at all.
Taylor is coming off a decision loss to Teofimo Lopez in June of 2023 and before that, beat Jack Catterall by split decision. The Brit says those two performances are the worst of his career but he believes he still has a lot of fights left in him.
โIโve got plenty left,โ Taylor said to IFL TV. โYou know what? So, Iโve had one loss. Iโve had one loss, so now Iโm, all of a sudden, finished. You know, had a bad performance against Jack. And then, I donโt know, sort of OK performance against [Teofimo] Lopez. But again, it wasnโt my best. But Iโve had one loss, so what, is that me finished? Is that me finished? Come on. All the greats in the past have had losses, multiple losses, but theyโre still great fighters.
โSo yes, Iโm a great fighter. Of course, the hungerโs still there. Iโve got ambitions to obviously get this rematch done with Jack, hopefully, at some point, hopefully sooner rather than later. And then move on, get him out of the way, move on and hopefully become a two-weight world champion. Thatโs the goals I wanna set. You know, Iโve achieved everything I can at 140, so in terms of achievement-wise and belts, Iโve done it all,” Taylor continued.
As of right now, Josh Taylor doesn’t have his next fight booked but all signs point to him rematching Jack Catterall. After that, Taylor says he wants to go up to welterweight and start chasing belts there.
โSo, I wanna move up to welter and hopefully become a two-weight world champion, start chasing titles up there,โ Taylor said. โYou know, see what the lay of the land is in terms with the belts, if they become available, if Terence [Crawford] moves up or vacates or anything like that. So, the futureโs bright. You know what I mean?
โThereโs huge fights both at 140 and 147. So, youโve got Devin Haney coming up, and all these [Ryan] Garcias and all that coming up as well, so thereโs a lotta options are there, a lotta options are there and big fights. And thatโs what Iโm still in the game for, is to be involved in these big fights and produce big nights. So yeah, I canโt wait,” Taylor continued.
Josh Taylor is 19-1 as a pro and coming off a decision loss to Teofimo Lopez.
Do you think Josh Taylor still can be a world champion?
