Kid Galahad Stops Jazza Dickens, Captures IBF Gold

Kid Galahad

Kid Galahad can now call himself a world champion.

On Aug. 7, Galahad went one-on-one with Jazza Dickens for the vacant IBF Featherweight Title. The bout took place inside Fight Camp in Essex. Galahad ended up scoring the 11th-round TKO finish after Dickens didn’t get out of his corner for the 12th round.

After the fight, Galahad expressed joy in finally capturing a world title. He also said that unlike Josh Warrington and Can Xu, he was able to handle business (h/t BoxingScene.com).

“I’ve been waiting 19 years for this and I’ve finally got it. People can think what they like but I am a full-time professional and I outboxed someone who I think will definitely be a future world champion.

“When I got in there I had tunnel vision. Everyone else fell apart, Josh Warrington and Can Xu, and they got smashed apart. I went in there after 18 months off and smashed him up.”

Galahad then told Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn that he wants to clear out the entire featherweight division.

“If you give me the opportunity, I will clean up the division.”

Galahad now improves his pro boxing record to 28-1. The lone defeat of his career came against Josh Warrington back in June 2019. Galahad lost the fight via split decision. It was an IBF Title.

With the defeat at the hands of Galahad, the eight-fight winning streak of Dickens has been snapped. He hadn’t lost a fight since May 2017. Dickens has yet to capture a world title in his 34-fight career. His record has fallen to 30-4.

What’s next for Kid Galahad will be a topic in the boxing community in the coming weeks. If Galahad truly wants to clear out the division, he’ll need to get past the likes of WBA Super Champion Leo Santa Cruz, WBC Champion Gary Russell Jr., and WBO titleholder Emanuel Navarrete. There’s also WBA Regular Champion Leigh Wood and interim titleholder Michael Conlan.
