Oscar De La Hoya thinks Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia is a fight to save boxing.

Davis vs. Garcia is a fight many fans wanted to see and on April 22 the two will finally meet which will be a massive scrap. For many fans, the biggest complaint about boxing is the stars never fight each other in their prime but that is exactly what Davis and Garcia are doing so De La Hoya hopes others follow in their footsteps.

“This is the fight to save boxing – literally,” De La Hoya told Showtime’s announcer, Ray Flores (h/t BoxingScene). “You know, they keep on – every decade has its fight to save boxing. This is the fight to save boxing. And the reason why it is, is because you have two young guys, two undefeated guys, who are the best of the best, willing to fight each other. You can see the anticipation, you can feel it. The sellout in four minutes of tickets. It’s a great indication that this pay-per-view is gonna be huge, so yeah, this is the fight of the year.”

Currently, Gervonta Davis is the slight betting favorite to beat Ryan Garcia in Las Vegas on April 22. Yet, both men are extremely confident they will get the win, and Oscar De La Hoya says he sees something in Garcia’s eyes that he will do something special.

“I told [Garcia] the other day, ‘I can see it in your eyes. There’s something in your eyes that tells me you’re gonna do something special,’ ” De La Hoya said. “Because there’s fighters in each generation that are chosen. And Ryan is the chosen one for this generation.”
