Report: Billy Joe Saunders Banked $8 Million In Canelo Alvarez Defeat

Billy Joe Saunders may have lost to Canelo Alvarez, but he reportedly banked a solid $8 million in the process.

Saunders lost his WBO super-middleweight title after suffering an eight-round TKO defeat to Alvarez when his corner decided to stop the fight following a fractured orbital bone for the Briton.

It was a big blow for Saunders as he certainly had his moments and definitely looked like he belonged with Alvarez in the ring.

He has since undergone successful surgery for his orbital and broken cheekbones. Whether he returns to his old level from those injuries? It remains to be seen.

However, should Saunders call it a day — no matter how unlikely — he is certainly set for the foreseeable future as per Mike Coppinger.

“Sources: Billy Joe Saunders earned $8 million for 168-pound title tilt with Canelo Alvarez. He’s been vocal about longtime friendship with advisor, Daniel Kinahan, who did the deal with Eddie Hearn. With a career-threatening injury, Saunders should be set for life.”

That is definitely the highest payday for Saunders and there’s certainly no shame in bowing out to Alvarez if his injuries do indeed lead to his retirement.
