Tommy Fury Says He Has ‘Unfinished Business’ With Jake Paul
Tommy Fury was not impressed with Jake Paul’s win over Tyron Woodley back in December.
Paul was rematching Woodley after Fury was forced to pull out of the fight with a broken rib and an infection. Paul ended up winning by sixth-round KO but in the earlier rounds neither Paul nor Woodley threw much volume which Fury says proves the YouTuber is not as good as many think.
โHonestly, it was appalling to watch,โ Fury said to MMAFighting’s MMA Hour. โAnd even the commentators, I donโt know what round it was, said, โThis is getting hard to watch now.โ And they were joking between themselves during the fight saying, โOh, I wonder who won that round? Well, nobody. Nobody threw a punch. Nobody.โ It looked like they were trying to shadowbox in front of each other.
“No one wanted to commit. No one wanted to do anything. That fight was just really about one punch. But as far as the six rounds go, that was the worst six rounds,” Fury continued. โThereโs no head movement. Thereโs no thought there. Heโs a raw novice.โ
Although Fury was disappointed in the fight, Paul did get a violent knockout win and continues to prove he has one-punch power. Yet, as the Brit says, he still is raw so Tommy Fury makes it clear he still wants that fight.
โThe fact of the matter is thereโs unfinished business here and this fight needs to take place, because how can he be serious about fighting if heโs never fought a boxer before?โ Fury said. โHow can he be serious about this? He keeps referring to the UFC. If he wants to go and fight in the UFC, donโt put on a pair of boxing gloves again and go and fight in the UFC. Donโt call yourself a boxer if youโve never ever fought one.
โMake no mistake, thatโs the fight I want next,โ Fury continued, โand Iโll always be checking in with my team every single day to see where weโre up to with that. But there comes a time where I have my own career. My goal still isnโt changed. My goal is to be a champion in this sport. And believe it or not, fighting Jake Paul, it doesnโt give me that at all. Fighting Jake Paul will never make me a champion in boxing. So Jake Paul, yes, itโs a great fight. Itโs a big fight. But it doesnโt really make me achieve my dreams. So at the end of the day, Iโll wait for a certain amount of time, Iโll try my best to get this fight back on track. You talk to everybody, this is the fight that I want. But at the end of the day, my career goes on.โ
At this point, Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury makes a ton of sense but whether or not it will happen next is uncertain.
Who do you think would win if they were to fight, Jake Paul or Tommy Fury?
