Video | Francisco Fonseca Scores KO Win, Targets Super Featherweight Title

Nicaragua’s Francisco Fonseca (26-3-2, 20 K0) has set his sets on another super featherweight title shot after returning to the winner’s circle this past Saturday (August 8). The 26-year-old stopped his compatriot Eusebio Ose (30-25-3 8 KO) in the opening round of their eight-round clash in Nuevo, Nicararo Managua, Nicaragua.

Coming into this weekend’s contest, Fonseca was looking to bounce back from his first-round loss to Ryan Garcia when the two meet in a lightweight matchup in February. The two-time world title challenger did just that, leaving his trainer — former two-division World Champion Rosendo Alvarez — satisfied with his charge’s performance.

“Fonseca has really put in the hard work in training for this fight, he really wanted to show what he’s trained for in the main event of the Buffalo Boxing event,” Alvarez said.

“Tonight, we saw a new and rejuvenated Fonseca, and the plan was always finishing the fight early, and in style, we worked on the straight right to the body in the camp.”

Fonseca and his manager Tony Tolj are now set to sit down and work out the best steps to take next as they look to build a case for Fonseca to have another tilt at a world title.

“With my team, I’m ready for all the top contenders like Carl Frampton, Felix Verdejo, and we will be ready for any of the World Champions, Berchelt, Diaz, Herring, Alvarado. I will discuss with Tony [Tolj], and we will plan,” Fonseca

Tolj, who also manages the Moloney twins, is confident that it will not be too long before his client earns himself another shot at a super featherweight glory.

“All Francisco wants is another World title shot, I know Frampton needs an opponent for his fight. I’m happy to put Fonseca’s name in the Frampton pool. It would be an honor to fight such a respected boxer,” Tolj said.

“I have a lot of belief in Francisco and the team, and I believe the sky’s the limit for Fonseca, and another shot at one of the world champions is coming.”
