Bob Arum Likes The Chances Of Making Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Shakur Stevenson Next Year

Bob Arum

Bob Arum believes there is a very good chance Vasyl Lomachenko will box Shakur Stevenson in 2023.

Stevenson has recently said he wants to box Lomachenko in the future. Yet, when Arum was asked about potential next matchups for Stevenson if he beats Robson Conceiao. One name that got brought up was Ryan Garcia, yet for Arum, he says that fight would be harder to make so instead he would look to make Stevenson vs. Lomachenko given he promotes both of them.

“I can’t talk for [Ryan] Garcia, obviously he fights for Golden Boy. We haven’t broached anything with them,” Arum told FightHype.com. “In our own stable hopefully we get Lomachenko back in action. If everything’s okay, if he gets leave from the Ukrainian military, we can get Lomachenko in action in October and then next year [there are] a lot of ways for Lomachenko to go. One fight that has to be made, maybe not next for either guy, but down the road, probably next year, the fight that everybody would die to see if Shakur Stevenson and Lomachenko. Both guys want that fight.”

In order for that fight to happen, Shakur Stevenson will need to win his fight and Vasyl Lomachenko needs to get a fight and win. According to Arum, he says he is working on a fight for Lomachenko now.

“I think [Vice President of Operations] Carl Moretti is working with our matchmakers to pick a suitable opponent,” Arum said. “I’m sure they’ll come up with somebody that passes all the tests. Remember Loma’s been inactive since I guess December.”
