Shawn Porter Doesn’t Like Keith Thurman’s Chances In Potential Errol Spence Jr. Fight

Shawn Porter

Shawn Porter doesn’t think Keith Thurman has what it takes to beat Errol Spence Jr. in a potential fight.

With Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford not happening, it seems likely Spence Jr. will take on Keith Thurman. The WBC ordered the fight to take place and if it does, Shawn Porter is excited for the matchup as he believes it is the next best fight beside Spence Jr. vs. Crawford.

“Honestly, I think my heart wants to say that it’s a really good alternative,” said Porter to FightHype.com recently (via Boxingscene). “I think it all just depends on Keith. He is in the latter stages of his career. I just know from experience and I know from what I’ve seen from other fighters for so long, the energy and everything that you gave boxing early on in your career, the middle of your career, it’s just much different than it is on the back end of your career.”

Even though Shawn Porter thinks Errol Spence Jr. vs. Keith Thurman is a good fight, he doesn’t think Thurman has what it takes to beat the champ. Instead, he believes Spence Jr. is too good right now and Thurman is past his prime and not as good as he once was.

“Errol Spence is a great fighter, good can’t beat great. Once upon a time, Keith was great,” Porter said. “The question is, does he have that in him? Based on his last fight, long way from the lip to the cup. It just looks like he’s got a lot of work to do in order to get back to being a supreme, athletic talent.”
